Strengthening Humanitarian Response to Drought in Somaliland

On 28 January 2026, the Humanitarian Coordination Group (HCG), chaired by NADFOR and co-chaired by OCHA, Hargeisa, brought together humanitarian partners to coordinate efforts in responding to the ongoing drought and addressing urgent humanitarian needs across Somaliland.

The meeting gathered representatives from government institutions, UN agencies, local and international NGOs, and donor organizations to review the current situation and plan coordinated interventions.

  • Sharing the Drought Response Matrix: OCHA provided the updated tool to allow partners to document ongoing and planned support during the first quarter of 2026.

  • Mobilizing Resources: Partners agreed to enhance advocacy and resource mobilization to ensure that vulnerable populations receive timely assistance.

  • Village-Level Needs Reporting: Hargeisa municipality shared updates on the humanitarian needs of villages under its jurisdiction, including Salahley, Sabawanag, and Faraweyne.

The meeting emphasized collaboration, coordinated planning, and timely information sharing to ensure effective delivery of aid. Through these joint efforts, the HCG reaffirms its commitment to supporting communities affected by the drought in Somaliland.
